For clinicians: talking with patients about digital and AI advice
A short, practical approach to the advice patients bring from the internet and AI.
Draft · awaiting clinician review
Ask, without judgement
A simple ‘Have you looked anything up, or asked a chatbot, about your diabetes?’ invites patients to share. Many do not mention it unless asked.
Acknowledge, then guide
- Recognise what is useful in what they found.
- Correct what is unsafe, especially changes to medicines.
- Point to trusted sources and to DAQIQ’s AI advice check.
Watch for higher-risk patients
Patients with lower health literacy, high trust in AI or who do not disclose what they read may be more likely to act on unsafe advice. These are exactly the questions the LDQ Cohort is studying.
